SciCafe is a Coordination & Support project funded by the European Commission within the 7th Framework Programme, under the "Exchanges and co-operation of local actors on scientific culture" theme.
The project's main target is to create a European network of Science Cafes in cities of different geographical, demographic and cultural characteristics. The specific mission of this network is the involvement of science in society issues so as to provide local civil society organizations with the scientific knowledge they need.
The SciCafe project proposes the notion of networking, exchange of best practices, and co-operation between science cafes in different cities and regions of Europe, both in their physical vicinities and in virtual space.
Scicafe will operate as a vehicle for the promotion of the public understanding of science and of the public debate on scientific issues, focusing specifically on the promotion of a scientific culture at the local level. More specifically, the SciCafe project proposes an innovative approach that crosscuts the boundaries between the already existing initiatives, focusing not only on the improvement of organisers' knowledge on how to develop and maintain a Science Cafe but also on increasing the participants intrinsic motivation to learn and understand about scientific issues, which could potentially change their attitude towards science and encourage them to follow scientific careers in the years to come.
The Scicafe project aims at promoting the idea of science cafe as an effective communication tool for science and technology. The project is funded by the European Commission, FP7-Science in Society. Based on previous experience, the network will adopt good practices all over Europe and implement new technologies so as to attract young people and people from deprived areas. We would like to officially invite you to be a part of our network and participate at the project as an associated partner.
Some of the benefits of an associated member:
- Networking with science cafes organizers all over Europe
- Networking with junior science cafe organizers
- Access to our Knowledge Management Tool
- Access to the Web2 Technologies that will be developed
- Participation at our paneuropean activities
We would love to see you on board.
